MFI-100

Melt Flow Indexer (Gravimetric)

The MFI-100 Melt Flow Indexer is a low-cost, simple-to-use plastometer determining melt flow index by the gravimetric method, conforming to both ASTM D1238 and ISO 1133 Method A. Ideal for QC departments in extrusion, injection moulding and rotational moulding applications.

Melt Flow Indexer (Basic Gravimetric)

The MFI-100 is a basic plastometer for determining the melt flow index in thermoplastic materials by the gravimetric method. It’s a low-cost, simple-to-use MFI instrument well suited to the QC department, conforming to both ASTM D1238 and ISO 1133 Method A gravimetric.

Determining the MFI/MFR is important for all thermoplastic materials, with typical applications across extrusion, injection moulding and rotational moulding.

Key Features

  • Gravimetric method.
  • Automatic sample cutting for improved cut-off accuracy.
  • PID temperature controller (maintaining ±0.1°C).
  • Prepared for working with corrosive materials such as PVC.
  • Standard temperature range up to +325°C, resolution ±0.1°C.
  • Digital chronometer with a range of up to 9999 seconds.
  • 7 chromed and polished weights included as standard: 1.2kg, 2.16kg, 3.8kg, 5kg, 5kg, 6.6kg and 10kg (21.6kg achievable by combining 5kg, 6.6kg and 10kg weights).
  • All working and cleaning tools included, plus standard piston and nozzle.
  • CE marked.

Applications

Ideal for extrusion, injection moulding and rotational moulding quality control, providing consistent MFI/MFR values for characterising thermoplastic flow behaviour and viscosity at various temperatures and pressures.

Note: to calculate the flow index, the extruded material must be weighed with a resolution of 0.001g — a precision balance is recommended.
