PSC-Polaris Series

Infrared Temperature Switch / Hot Metal Detector

The Polaris Series (PS09, PI16) is a cost-efficient infrared temperature switch for non-contact detection of hot metal parts, covering 250°C to 1800°C with a fast 4ms response. Its short-wave spectral sensitivity makes it ideal for hot metal, ceramics and graphite detection.

Cost-Efficient Infrared Heat Switch

The Polaris Series is a cost-efficient and accurate infrared temperature switching device used for the recognition of hot parts — a hot metal detector. The Polaris series of infrared temperature switches detects hot metal parts or overheating without contact, triggering switching operations used for sorting, or activating a cooling or similar process.

Polaris temperature switches measure in the short-wave spectral range, making them well suited to metals, ceramics, graphite and similar materials. The short-wave spectral sensitivity is important for precise detection of polished, bright metal parts, since it reduces the impact of emissivity deviation on accuracy. LEDs on the rear of the sensor indicate which switch state the Polaris is in.

Key Features

  • Fast measured-value acquisition / response time of just 4ms.
  • Two transistor switching contacts with adjustable switching temperatures and switching hysteresis.
  • Three status LEDs for operational readiness and active switching outputs.
  • Simple switching point parameterisation via interface and supplied software.
  • Optional RS232 or RS485 interface for device adjustment and digital temperature evaluation on a PC or PLC.

Two Models for Different Temperature Ranges

  • PI16: Switching ranges of 250–1000°C, 300–1300°C, or 350–1800°C.
  • PS09: Switching ranges of 550–1400°C or 650–1800°C.

Applications

Used for non-contact detection of hot metal parts or overheating in metals, ceramics, graphite and similar high-temperature material handling processes.
