RF Moisture Detection in the Palm of Your Hand

The Process Sensors Portable Moisture Tester (PMT-330) puts the capabilities of an on-line moisture analysis and control system into the palm of your hand, letting operators spot-check moisture content of boards, wood, plastic and paper products quickly and easily. It uses radio frequency dielectric (RF) measurement technology that penetrates the surface of products and instantly displays accurate moisture data.

How It Works

The PMT-330 is designed for ease of use and fast at-line analysis:

1. Hold the sensor upright in the air to “zero” the unit, calibrating it to the local air humidity and temperature.
2. Select one of 10 pre-programmed product codes matching the material you’re measuring.
3. Press the sensor firmly onto the board and press the button — an accurate moisture reading appears on the display within seconds.

The PMT-330 uses the same RF dielectric measurement principles as KPM’s on-line RF sensors, penetrating and analysing the full moisture composition of the product — unlike NIR technology, which measures only the surface.

Two Models for Different Board Thicknesses

• PMT-330G: Effective penetration depth of approximately 20 mm (0.75 in) — ideal for gypsum and other board applications.
• PMT-330V: Effective penetration depth of approximately 3 mm (0.125 in) — ideal for veneer and thin sheet applications.

Applications

The PMT-330 measures moisture content of finished products across board manufacturing (gypsum board, hardboard, particle board, gypsum/fibre board, cement/fibre board), wood manufacturing (hardwood veneers, plywood veneers, dimensional lumber), and paper manufacturing (cardboard, laminates, pulp bales, sheets).
