PSC-Sirius Series

Compact Short-Wavelength Pyrometer for Metals

The Sirius Series (SS09, SI16, SI23) is a compact, short-wavelength pyrometer for ferrous and non-ferrous metals from 50°C to 2500°C. Its shorter wavelength operation reduces sensitivity to emissivity changes on un-oxidised metal surfaces, with laser sighting and a 5ms response.

Compact Short-Wavelength Pyrometer for Metals

The Sirius line of pyrometers was developed to meet the growing demand for small, compact and easy-to-install sensors with first-class optical and electronic characteristics, covering temperature ranges from 50°C to 2500°C. Sirius pyrometers provide digital/analogue outputs and operate at shorter wavelengths where the emissivity of un-oxidised metal surfaces is higher — making them an excellent choice for measurement of ferrous and non-ferrous metals above 50°C.

These pyrometers offer adjustable focus optics and are exceptionally robust, with no mechanical moving parts and the lens, detector and electronics contained in a stainless steel IP65 housing. By utilising digital signal processing, the Sirius line exceeds standard analogue pyrometers in precision and repeatability.

Three Models to Suit Your Application

  • SS09: Temperature range 550°C to 2500°C, spectral response 0.7–1.1µm.
  • SI16: Temperature range 250°C to 1800°C (multiple sub-ranges), spectral response 1.45–1.8µm.
  • SI23: Short wavelength (2–2.6µm), for induction heating, metal heat-treat, kilns, vacuum furnaces, welding and composites above 50°C.

Key Features

  • Fast 5ms response time, adjustable up to 10s.
  • Precise laser sighting indicates the centre of the target area — switchable via push button, PSCwin software, external contact, or digital command.
  • Isolated analogue output switchable from 0 to 4–20mA, with digital RS232 or RS485 communication.
  • Peak picker (maximum value storage) compensates for interruptions or attenuation of the IR signal.
  • Rugged stainless steel IP65 housing with no moving parts.

Software

PSCwin software supports automatic or manual set-up of the pyrometer, and recording and saving of graphics or table files — useful for quality assurance purposes since parameter settings are recorded alongside the data.
