The Guardian-HD is a rugged web profiling system that continuously scans the full width of paper, film and web-converting lines to measure moisture, coat weight, adhesive thickness and web temperature. Accurate to within ±0.1%, it replaces time-consuming lab testing with real-time, zoned web data for faster start-ups and less waste.
The Guardian-HD Series features a Near Infrared (NIR) sensor connected to a traversing frame that continually scans material across the full width of a web for real-time analysis of quality-critical parameters. It provides non-contact, non-destructive on-line measurement of a complete zoned web profile, helping operators reduce edge curl and lay-flat issues caused by improper moisture control — improving quality and consistency, cutting waste, and delivering a quick return on investment.
Real-time data is presented on an easy-to-understand touchscreen display for cross-direction web profiling, lane and machine-direction measurements. In some configurations, larger displays with Windows-based software are available for monitoring multiple line profiles from a single central console. All Guardian-HD configurations support USB data-logging with export to .csv, .xml or .txt formats. Each frame is custom-built for its specific application, with software pre-programmed for specific recipe codes, and the NIR sensor can be positioned to accommodate reflective surfaces (common in wet-end coating applications) as well as horizontal, vertical or under-side scanning.
The Guardian-HD serves a diverse range of web-converting applications, including moisture and coatings on paper webs, thickness of hot melts and pressure sensitive or water-based adhesives, paper pulp, plastic film thickness, biax film, PVB and EVA film, exit and inlet dryer moisture measurement, cast film, coated abrasives, wax coatings, extrusion coatings on paper/foil, moisture in corrugated board, textiles, pattern coatings (move and park), flexible packaging and flooring.
The Guardian-HD sensor is available with a food-grade electroless nickel finish and sapphire or Kel-F window for food production applications, allowing a full array of product entering or exiting a fryer or oven to be scanned.
All Guardian-HD Series models run KPM’s proprietary SensorVu Windows-based PC software for set-up, calibration, product code selection, diagnostics and remote trend monitoring, with support for connecting multiple analysers in a single location.
