The IMPS-4400 is a non-contact RF moisture profiling array for board manufacturers, using up to 128 sensors to capture a true cross-web moisture profile at up to 30 readings per second. With accuracy to ±0.02% on gypsum board, it gives operators the visual insight needed to catch quality issues before they become problems.
The Instant Moisture Profiling System (IMPS-4400) is a non-contact RF moisture profiling system for board manufacturers, helping improve and optimise production processes, meet quality standards, reduce energy costs, increase productivity and generate revenue. The IMPS-4400 uses radio frequency antennas to analyse board moisture characteristics below the surface — critical information for ensuring consistent quality of finished boards.
The IMPS-4400 is mounted directly between rollers in a conveying board process line, with individual sensors mounted in an array spanning the width of the board line. As a board passes through the conveyor — either heading to or leaving a dryer or kiln — the IMPS-4400 transmits RF signals from the sensor array, capturing up to 30 moisture readings per second. Measurement data is displayed in proprietary software and stored in an X-Y matrix, with graphs, tables and trend charts illustrating the moisture profile from multiple perspectives in real time.
While the IMPS-4400 can operate as a standalone instrument, the optional I/O module makes it easy to integrate into your process control system. It provides real-time (not latched) 0-10VDC and 4-20mA analogue outputs to your processor or PLC, plus logic outputs providing alarm signals for user-defined moisture levels and board lengths — simplifying quality control by adding moisture profiling directly into your process.
The IMPS-4400 is engineered for board manufacturers across construction/building materials (drywall, hardboard, particle board, gypsum/fibre board, cement/fibre board), wood manufacturing (hardwood veneers, plywood veneers, dimensional lumber), and paper manufacturing (cardboard, laminates, pulp bales, sheets).
The proprietary software provides multiple graphical representations of moisture distribution for individual boards — multi-deck displays, cross-direction moisture profiles, bar graphs and more — helping producers save time, reduce waste and lower energy costs. Dryer exit visualisation shows the moisture profile of every board, while cross-board profiling across every deck in a multi-deck dryer reveals dryer imbalance at a glance.
